Winona Ryder Enters ‘The Dilemma’ Controversy

Thursday, Nov 4, 2010

Winona Ryder has discussed the controversy surrounding The Dilemma’s negative use of the word ‘gay’ in the trailer for Ron Howard’s rom-com, after Howard insisted this weekend that the line would stay in the film.

The line “electric cars are gay” was removed from early Dilemma trailers, after the use of the word in a negative context was deemed offensive, causing outcry from gay rights groups and celebrities alike.

But Ryder told Total Film:

“[The controversy] is really crazy because I know the context in the scene. I didn’t even know that there was a scandal, until I went in for looping and I talked to Ron [Howard].

“You know it’s just crazy because I’m very sensitive to that issue and if I thought something was offensive I wouldn’t want to be a part of it. Plus all my gay friends use that word all the time!”

The Dilemma is released in 2011

Winona teams up with Tim Burton for a new project!

Tuesday, Sep 21, 2010

The day is here, fellows. Deadline is reporting that Winona will be joining Martin Landau, Catherine O’Hara and Martin Short for the Disney feature “Frankenweenie.”

According to Deadline, Winona Ryder and Martin Landau have each taken a key role, while Martin Short and Catherine O’Hara will each be providing five different supporting voices.

Landau’s role is that of Mr. Rzykruski; Short will be playing Bob, Nassor, Toshiaki, Victor’s Dad and Mr. Bergermeister; O’Hara is down for Edgar, Weird Girl, Victor’s Mom, and Gym Teacher; Ryder’s been given the part of Elsa, a love interest for Victor. Victor has not yet been announced, yet.

John August wrote the script for the project, which is based on Burton’s 1984 live-action short film about a man who reanimates his dog after it gets hit by a car.

Disney is scheduled to release “Frankenweenie” on March 9, 2012.
