SAG Ballots out today!

Wednesday, Nov 24, 2010

Today, the 2,100 randomly selected Screen Actors Guild nominating committee members are getting their ballots. They will then have a few weeks to see everything before jotting down their choices.

Votes for nominees may be cast online or via mailed paper ballot. Votes must be received by the Guild’s official teller, Integrity Voting Systems, by Monday, Dec. 13, 2010 at 5 p.m (PT). Nominations for the 17th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards will be announced at the Pacific Design Center in West Hollywood on Thursday, Dec. 16, 2010 at 6 a.m. (PT)/9 a.m. (ET), telecast live on TNT and webcast live on tnt.tv and tbs.com.

The site Awards Daily did a list with the year’s strongest performances, and the supporting players, with ‘Black Swan’ as the first choice.

Natalie Portman in Black Swan. While it’s true that this is Natalie’s show, almost entirely, she needed something to play off to connect to the various emotions that flood over her. Barbara Hershey giving one of the scariest performances of the year as her mother is vital to prompting neurosis from Portman.
Mila Kunis provides the match that lights a fire that won’t be put out until the end of the film. Winona Ryder presents a whole new dimension to what she’s been capable of on screen throughout her career — she plays a self-pitying ex-prima ballerina here and also provides a motivating force for Portman. Finally, Vince Cassel as the all-seeing dance teacher, the thrusting male presence causing all of the females to flurry like nervous pigeons is great. Most likely to get a supporting nod: Barbara Hershey.

5 Things We Enjoyed Seeing on the Set of ‘The Dilemma’Moviefone

Highlight #4: Winona Ryder Getting Some Action
‘Beetlejuice’ and ‘Heathers’ were my favorite movies in grade school and high school, respectively, so I was really stoked to see Winona Ryder in person — and in a big role, at that. Shoplifting scandal be damned, she’s an appealing actress deserving of a comeback. To be honest, ‘The Dilemma’ might not be the right vehicle, as her dialogue in the scene I witnessed was pretty stilted and her chemistry with James a bit flat. But I’m willing to grant a day pass to the actress who recently played Spock’s mother.

Set visit: The Dilemma

Tuesday, Nov 23, 2010

Towards the final hours of the production day, Jennifer Connelly (in four-inch heels, but still a good 6” shorter than her on-screen hubby) and Winona Ryder (short, too button-like for James) enter the set. Connelly bids us a comforting “Hello” that causes one of us, first time seeing such a creature as tall and sexy as this, to spill his notebook on the floor. With new eye candy (and stand-ins!), it’s a fresh start for the journalists–and Vaughn, evidently, who trumpets, “Let’s do this thing!” before one of the takes with the ladies.
