Ryder’s parents refused to let her wed Depp

Monday, Jul 30, 2007

Winona Ryder would have wed ex-boyfriend Johnny Depp if her parents hadn’t put an end to wedding talk.

In a new interview with Vogue magazine, the actress and her father, Michael Horowitz, discuss the Heathers star’s romance with Depp. And, although the family loved their daughter’s Edward Scissorhands co-star, they disapproved of the couple’s wedding plans.

In the article, Horowitz says, “They were the hottest couple in the United States at that time, like Brad (Pitt) and Angelina (Jolie)… You guys were cool.”

But Ryder recalls, “You stopped a wedding.”

The actress’ father responds, “We loved Johnny but you were 17.”

He later asks, “Was Johnny angry at us for stopping the wedding? We had dinner soon after, and I didn’t get a bad vibe.”

(…) the genius of Gary Oldman who plays such a diverse Dracula (young and old, man and beast) that there really isn’t anything else that stands out in the memory of the movie. Well, nothing besides Anthony Hopkins as Van Helsing. And frankly, Winona Rider is pretty good too. Actually, the movie’s pretty doggone brilliant.

The two-disc special edition will include a newly remastered anamorphic widescreen presentation, along with an English Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround track. Extras will include a video introduction by Francis Ford Coppola, an audio commentary by Coppola, a documentary, deleted scenes, the trailer, and more. A Blu-ray edition will also be available. Winona Ryder rings in ‘Ten’

Thursday, Jul 26, 2007

Variety.com – Despite her small frame, Winona Ryder made a big impression at Monday’s premiere of Sundance pic “The Ten.”

After photogs spent a half-hour shooting the arrival of cast members including A.D. Miles, Paul Rudd, Gretchen Mol and Famke Janssen, their flashbulbs lit up the DGA’s red carpet when Ryder appeared.

The actress happily posed for the cameras but steered clear of the print press.

Review: Opening Night with The Ten

Wednesday, Jul 25, 2007

I was happy to go to The Ten premiere and afterparty on Monday night; the movie itself was nerve-wrackingly funny. I didn’t think it was possible to break any more movie taboos yet somehow David Wain succeeded. Describing the movie is nearly impossible — part Borat, part Woody Allen. Winona Ryder seduces a wooden puppet, then plays a parody of herself. The one fault: they condensed so much humor. I was often overwhelmed; I had no time to decide whether to love or hate each gag and bit, or simply let the shock overtake me.

Winona Ryder did the red carpet, had her picture snapped, but I didn’t see her in the theater or at the afterparty. Apparently, during Sundance she came to the screening, but couldn’t get in because her entourage was too large. Maybe she decided to skip the NY scene. Soon she’ll be on the cover of Vogue; I’m happy she’s poised for a comeback.

The ’90s pin-up girl hits the red carpet in NYC Monday night as she jumpstarts her career with a bunch of new movies!

WINONA RYDER has been popping up in the public eye more and more lately — the star just hit the premiere of her new flick, ‘The Ten,’ in the Big Apple Monday night.

Winona, who bundled up in a black knit cap and cream-colored coat for the NYC red carpet premiere, is also talking about her past — she says she was embarrassed by the media coverage of her arrest for shoplifting in 2001, after security cameras caught her attempting to pocket merchandise from the Beverly Hills Saks Fifth Avenue.

“The attention was what was embarrassing,” she says in Vogue magazine’s August issue.

The story attracted worldwide attention in the news for months due to her subsequent trial, generating a great deal of negative publicity for the successful actress.
