Winona leads stars at Beckett fest

Saturday, Jul 6, 2013

Winona Ryder is the star attraction at a top Irish festival this year. She will join stand-up comedian Frank Skinner, actor Clive James, Harry Potter star Miranda Richardson and Fiona Shaw at this year’s Happy Days Enniskillen International Beckett festival. It’s the world’s largest celebration of Samuel Beckett’s work.

Spokesperson for the festival, Conleath Teevan, says Winona will be reading extracts from some of the Nobel Prize winner’s work.

“She’ll be doing several readings,” he said.

“All actors love Beckett and we’re delighted Winona is taking part in the festival. She’ll be in the Words Without Acts section.

“Winona and some of the other celebrities will read extracts of Beckett’s lesser known prose and they’ll chat about them afterwards. Winona is a big, big fan of Beckett’s work,” he said.

The 41-year-old appeared as Winnie in a 2007 film version of Happy Days and is believed to be extremely excited about heading to Enniskillen.

Winona to guest star on Drunk History

Tuesday, Jun 11, 2013

One of the funniest web series to ever exist is coming to television as Comedy Central has announced an eight-episode run of the Funny or Die original, “Drunk History.”

Drunk History first hit the web over five years ago. The premise of the short videos is simple: Someone drinks a bunch of liquor and proceeds to tell the story behind a famous historical event – the friendship of Lincoln and Douglass, Benjamin Franklin discovering electricity, Alexander Hamilton & Aaron Burr. etc.

The videos feature the drunk storyteller as narrator, but also feature dramatic recreations of the events as they unfold – as they unfold from the mouths of the drunk storytellers, of course.

The network has officially set a July 9 premiere for the web-adapted reenactment series, amid a mammoth list of guest stars that includes everyone from ‘SNL‘ vet Kristen Wiig to Winona Ryder and ‘The Internship”s Owen Wilson, and that’s just to start. Episodes will run for 30 minutes and are slated to air this summer.

Check out the original sketches over Funny or Die! website.
