The filmmakers are working on two films in Santa Clarita, ‘Manure’ and ‘Stay Cool.’
May 22, 2008

Independent filmmakers Mark and Michael Polish said today that they have formed their own production company, Prohibition Pictures, and will be making two films back to back at Melody Ranch Studios in Santa Clarita, starting Tuesday.

“Manure,” a comedy about manure salesmen, will star Billy Bob Thornton, Téa Leoni and Kyle MacLachlan. “Stay Cool,” another comedy, will star Winona Ryder, Sean Astin and Chevy Chase.

Both scripts were written by the Polish brothers and will be directed by Michael, with Mark taking acting roles in each. The two films also will feature some of the same behind-the-scenes staff, including cinematographer David Mullen, production designer Clark Hunter and costume designer Bic Owen.

The Polish brothers’ previous films are “Twin Falls Idaho” (1999), “Jackpot” (2001) and “Northfork” (2003). They are natives of El Centro, Calif.

Movie shoot moves to New Milford

Saturday, May 10, 2008

NEW MILFORD — At least for one day, Jillian Alps felt like a star.

The general manager of the Heritage Inn on Bridge Street played hostess to film stars Keanu Reeves, Alan Arkin, Winona Ryder and Robin Wright Penn on Monday when scenes from the movie “The Private Lives of Pippa Lee” were filmed in town.

The film crew rented four of the property’s 20 guest rooms for the day so the actors and actresses could relax between takes. All gave autographs and were gracious with the staff, said Alps, who couldn’t pass up getting her picture taken with Reeves. Continue reading Movie shoot moves to New Milford

Star Trek delayed

Thursday, Feb 14, 2008

According to Variety, the movie’s premiere will remain ‘under construction’ until May 8, 2009.

The film was simply part of a major reshuffling in Paramount‘s calendar. In most cases, a changed date usually signals bad news; that’s not the case with Trek. In fact, the studio believes the movie will benefit from this shift.

The revamped Enterprise won’t be coming in for a landing on Christmas.

Paramount has pushed the release of J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek from Dec. 25 to May 8, 2009, part of a larger scheduling shift now that the writers’ strike is over and producers can look realistically at their films’ ETAs.

Abrams’ much-anticipated addition to the franchise, which will take fans back to Kirk and Spock’s formative years, is now due out on the Thursday before Mother’s Day.

To date, no other film jockeying for the same audience is slated to be released at the same time. The only possible eyeball-stealers at the moment are 20th Century Fox’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine, which is due in theaters May 1, 2009, and Sony’s Da Vinci Code prequel Angels and Demons.

So, apparently, while moviegoers couldn’t turn around in summer 2007 without smacking into a threequel, the summer of 2009 is shaping up to be the season of the prequel. Continue reading Star Trek delayed

Winona and Keanu, together again!

Thursday, Feb 7, 2008

From Variety: Alan Arkin, Monica Bellucci, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Keanu Reeves have joined the already starry cast of Rebecca Miller’s “The Private Lives of Pippa Lee.”

Pic, which is produced by Elevation Filmworks and Brad Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment, already features Julianne Moore and Winona Ryder. Robin Wright Penn stars as a dutiful wife whose husband falls for a younger woman, freeing her to explore her buried sensuality and leading to “a very quiet nervous breakdown.”

Miller (”The Ballad of Jack and Rose”) directs from her own novel of the same title. Lensing is skedded to begin in April 2008 in Connecticut.

Samantha Horley’s London-based Lumina Films is executive producing the pic and handling worldwide sales, with CAA partnering on the sale of North American distribution rights. Jean-Luc De Fanti and Winchester Capital Partners provide finance and take exec producing credits.

Pic is the fourth collaboration between Lemore Syvan of Elevation and Miller, following “Jack and Rose,” “Personal Velocity” and “Angela.”

Official ‘Star Trek XI’ Forums Open

Thursday, Jan 31, 2008

Star Trek just opens December 25. In the meantime, however, fans now have a new place where they can talk about the upcoming film by J.J. Abrams on the newly launched forums on the official site. Check out the forums by clicking here.

The new message boards are pretty straightforward with boards specifically for the movie, general Star Trek discussions, off-topic discussions, and comments and suggestions. At the same time, the official Star Trek site is keeping its forums open despite the fact that there is no clear sign that anyone is taking over the news operation there
